Cochrane is a municipality in the province of Alberta in Canada , the (since 1971 city status English Town ) has. It is located 18 kilometers west of Calgary . The Bow River flows on the southern outskirts .

Demographics

Cochrane has a population of 25,853 and is currently one of the fastest growing communities in Canada. The population has increased by 47.1% compared to the last census in 2011, while the population in the province of Alberta grew by an average of 11.6% and in British Columbia by 5.6%. Already in the census period 2006 to 2011 the population growth of 27.08% was well above the provincial average of 10.8%. In 1991 the community still had 5,267 inhabitants.

The median age of the population in 2016 was 36.9 years and the mean age was 37.1 years.

traffic

Cochrane is accessed by two highways. Alberta Highway 1A crosses the city in an east-west direction , while Alberta Highway 22 (also known as the Cowboy Trail ) passes it in a north-south direction . The small town is also crossed by a Canadian Pacific Railway .
