Grégory Hofmann (born November 13, 1992 in Neuchâtel ) is a Swiss ice hockey player who has been under contract with EV Zug from the National League since 2019 .

Career

Hofmann was born in Neuchâtel and played in the youth team of HC La Chaux-de-Fonds before moving to HC Ambrì-Piotta , where he was also used in the youth team and gained his first experience in the National League during the 2009/10 season A (NLA) collected. In addition, he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer .

In the draft of the National Hockey League (NHL) in 2011, the Carolina Hurricanes decided to select Hofmann in the fourth round in 103rd place. He received the offer to move to North America, but decided to stay in Switzerland. In 2012 Hofmann was signed by HC Davos . He benefited from Arno del Curto's sponsorship , but had trouble performing consistently. At that time his performance fluctuated “between world class and NLA average” .

On the way to the championship title of HC Davos in 2015, he contributed 11 goals and 14 assists in 47 qualifying games, scored 3 goals in 13 games in the playoffs, and also scored 2 more.

After three years at HCD, Hofmann switched to NLA competitor HC Lugano in 2015 and was runner-up in his first season. In the summer of 2017, he first attended a 13-week training course in Magglingen and later a Carolina Hurricanes training camp. In the following season 2017/18 he was the best Swiss in the National League with 60 points from 63 games. In addition, Hofmann was the top scorer in the play-offs with 14 goals.

In December 2018 Hofmann decided to leave HC Lugano at the end of the 2018/19 season and signed a four-year contract with EV Zug . He finished the main round with 30 goals scored, making him the top scorer in the entire National League and was appointed to the All-Star Team and the Swiss All-Star Team.

National team

At the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2009, Hofmann won the silver medal with the Swiss U16 team. In addition, Andrighetto played for Switzerland at the 2010 U18 World Junior Championship . A year later he represented the U20 team for the first time at the Junior World Championships and finished fifth with the national team. At the U20 Junior World Cup in 2012 , the Swiss U20 team finished fourth in the preliminary group and managed to stay in the relegation round (in the top division).

In January 2013 Hofmann was appointed to the squad of the men's national team for the first time . In May 2016, he took part in his first A World Championship and scored one goal and one assist in seven tournaments. Two years later, he won the silver medal at the 2018 World Cup .
