Carl Klingberg (born January 28, 1991 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been part of the EV Zug squad in the Swiss National League A since June 2016 .
Career
Carl Klingberg began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Frölunda HC , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Elitserien , the top Swedish league, in the 2008/09 season . He scored two goals in ten games and gave an assist. In the following season he was able to increase to six goals and seven assists in a total of 49 games for Frölunda. In his first two years as a professional, he also occasionally came on loan for Borås HC from HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division. Overall, he scored four goals and seven assists for the team in twelve second division games.
On May 31, 2010, Klingberg signed a contract with the Atlanta Thrashers , who had previously selected him in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft as the 34th player. The Atlanta Thrashers then loaned him back to Frölunda HC, where he spent most of the 2010/11 season. At the end of January 2011 he switched to Timrå IK as a loan player within the Elitserien , for whom he scored three goals and two assists in eleven games. He was then ordered from Atlanta to North America, where he met for Atlanta's farm team Chicago Wolves in eight games in the American Hockey League (AHL) once. For the Thrashers themselves, he made his debut in the National Hockey League on April 10, 2011 in the home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins .
In the summer of 2011, the Atlanta Thrashers were relocated to Winnipeg , Manitoba , and Klingberg joined their successor team, the Winnipeg Jets .
After four years in Winnipeg, the New York Rangers signed him in March 2015 and gave Lee Stempniak to the Jets for it. As a result, Klingberg ended the season with Hartford Wolf Pack , the farm team of the Rangers from the AHL, and then moved to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the Continental Hockey League . There he completed a season before his contract was terminated by mutual agreement in April 2016.
On June 30, 2016, EV Zug from the Swiss National League A (NLA) announced Klingberg's commitment.
