Lee Stempniak (born February 4, 1983 in West Seneca , New York ) is a retired American ice hockey player . The right winger played over 900 games for ten teams in the National Hockey League between 2005 and 2019 .
Career
The 1.83 m tall striker first played for Dartmouth College in the Eastern College Athletic Conference , a college league run by the National Collegiate Athletic Association , before being selected as the 148th player in the fifth round of the Blues in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft .
In his rookie season 2005/06 was the right shooter in addition to its operations in the Peoria Rivermen , an AHL - farm team of the Blues, 57 times for St. Louis in the NHL on the ice, scoring 14 goals in 13 assists.
In 2007 Stempniak was nominated for the Young Stars Game , which was part of the supporting program of the NHL All-Star Game , in which he played for the Western Conference team.
On November 24, 2008 Stempniak was transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Alexander Steen and Carlo Colaiacovo . On March 3, 2010, he was given in exchange for Matt Jones and two options for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft to the Phoenix Coyotes . In August 2011 he went to the Calgary Flames in exchange for the Center Daymond Langkow . This transferred him on March 5, 2014 again in exchange for a third-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2014 to the Pittsburgh Penguins . In Pittsburgh, Stempniak only stayed a few months until he signed a one-year contract with the New York Rangers in July 2014 .
In March 2015, however, the Rangers gave it to the Winnipeg Jets and received Carl Klingberg in return . In Winnipeg Stempniak ended the season, but also received no new contract, so he joined the New Jersey Devils in September on a probationary pre- season stage. This resulted in a permanent one-year contract that he signed in early October.
In February 2016, Stempniak changed teams again, so he was handed over to the Boston Bruins , who in return sent a second-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2017 and a fourth-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2016 to New Jersey. In Boston, Stempniak ended the 2015/16 season, but did not receive a contract from the Bruins, so he joined the Carolina Hurricanes as a free agent in July 2016 . There, his expiring contract was not extended after the 2017/18 season. It wasn't until February 2019 that the striker received an offer from the Providence Bruins from the AHL. There he first played a few games on trial before he received a contract from the partner team Boston Bruins until the end of the 2018/19 season .
At the end of the 2018/19 season, Stempniak finally ended his active career. In total, he had played for ten teams in the NHL and played over 900 games.
