Career
The 1.78 m tall center began its career in 1991 with the Tri-City Americans in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League . In the 1994/95 WHL season, the striker scored 140 points in 72 games , for which he was awarded the Bob Clarke Trophy as the best point collector in the WHL. In addition, he was appointed to the WHL West and the Canadian Hockey League All-Star team this season . In the 1995 NHL Entry Draft , the center was selected in the first round in fifth position by the Tampa Bay Lightning . Langkow spent another season with the Americans in the WHL and played regularly for Tampa in the National Hockey League from the 1996/97 NHL season . To date, Langkow is the most successful goalscorer in the history of the Tri-City Americans.
The left-handed shooter completed his first NHL mission on October 7, 1995 in a game of the Lightning against the Calgary Flames . The attacker's first goal was on November 19, 1996 against Los Angeles . Langkow was named February's NHL Rookie of the Month in February 1997. In the 1997/98 NHL season , his points yield was reduced and the Lightning sent the player to their farm team , the Adirondack Red Wings , in the American Hockey League . Langkow refused to play for the lower class team, after which he was suspended from the organization. The striker missed seven league games before being pardoned by Tampa Bay and called back to the NHL squad.
After the player had started the 1998/99 season with the Cleveland Lumberjacks in the International Hockey League , the Tampa Bay Lightning Langkow and Mikael Renberg transferred to the Philadelphia Flyers on December 12, 1998 in exchange for Chris Gratton and Mike Sillinger . There Langkow completed over 200 games by the end of the 2000/01 season . Before the start of the 2001/02 NHL season , the player was transferred from the Flyers to the Phoenix Coyotes . Philadelphia received in return Phoenix's second-round draft pick for the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and their first-round draft pick for the 2003 Entry Draft . In the 2003/04 season Langkowm ran as assistant captain of the Coyotes.
Daymond Langkow signed before the 2004/05 season, a new one-year contract worth 2.95 million US dollars . However, the Phoenix Coyotes transferred the center to the Calgary Flames two weeks later in exchange for Denis Gauthier and Oleg Saprykin . However, the season fell due to a players strike, Langkow played during this season, unlike many other NHL professionals, not for another club in a different league.
In Calgary, the player was able to set new personal offensive records and was nominated after the 2006/07 season by the Flames for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy . In the 2008/09 season , Langkow missed nine games due to a hand injury and scored less than 50 scoring points for the first time in nine years. On March 21, 2010, Daymond Langkow suffered a spinal cord injury after blocking a shot with his neck in the game against the Minnesota Wild . Due to the injury, the attacker missed the Flames for the rest of the season and also for most of the 2010/11 NHL season , in which he was only used in the last four games. Following the season he was nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy together with Ray Emery and Ian Laperrière . For Langkow it was the second nomination of his career after 2007, the trophy ultimately won by Laperrière.
On August 29, 2011 Langkow was transferred to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Lee Stempniak .
