Loculus grave
The loculus grave is a particularly common form of burial in catacombs .
The walls of the catacombs are mostly made of soft rock, in Rome for example tuff . In these walls, numerous body graves could be placed in niches ( loculi ) one above the other. In this way, numerous burials can be accommodated in a relatively small space. In many cases, locking plates (or traces of such loculus locks) can still be detected, with which the burials to the corridors were closed.
