He celebrated the greatest success of his career in 2011 when he won the Stanley Cup for the Boston Bruins. His father Colin Campbell was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Gregory Campbell began his career as a hockey player with the Plymouth Whalers , for which he was active for a total of two years in the Ontario Hockey League from 2000 to 2002 . He was then selected in the third round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft as the 67th player of the Florida Panthers . First, however, the center spent another year in the OHL, in which he was on the ice for the Kitchener Rangers . In the 2003/04 season Campbell played for the first time in professional ice hockey when he was included in the squad of Florida's then farm team San Antonio Rampage from the American Hockey League (AHL). In the same season, the Canadian made his debut in the National Hockey League , in which he appeared twice for the Panthers. The following season Campbell spent completely in San Antonio due to the lockout in the NHL.
From the 2006/07 season Campbell belonged exclusively to the NHL squad of the Panthers. In June 2010 they gave him in a barter deal with Nathan Horton to the Boston Bruins and received Dennis Wideman , a first-round vote and a third-round vote in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft . With the Bruins, Campbell won the Stanley Cup in the 2010/11 season .
After five years in Boston, his contract was not renewed after the 2014/15 season, so he joined the Columbus Blue Jackets as a free agent in July 2015 . After he had not missed a competitive game in the Jackets in the 2015/16 season, he should be sent to the Cleveland Monsters in the AHL at the beginning of the 2016/17 season . Campbell refused to do this, however, so it was agreed in December 2016 to terminate the contract. As a result, he successfully represented Team Canada at the Spengler Cup shortly before the turn of the year , before the striker announced his retirement from active sport at the age of 33 after the end of the season on June 9, 2017 and joined the coaching staff with immediate effect his last employer from Columbus changed.
