Daniel Vukovic (born February 19, 1986 in North York , Ontario ) is a Canadian - Swiss ice hockey player who has been under contract with the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the National League since 2019 .
Vukovic is considered a defensive-oriented defender, whose strengths are particularly hard body play and his leadership qualities within the team. In addition to being a Canadian citizen, he also has a Swiss passport and is therefore not subject to the quota of foreigners in the NLA.
Career
Vukovic began his career in the 2002/03 season with the St. Michael's Buzzers in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League in his home province. Between 2004 and 2008, he was on the ice for the Michigan State University team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , which is part of the NCAA's game operations . In 2007 he won the college championship with the "Spartans".
In the summer of 2008, Vukovic opted for a move to Europe and signed a contract with Swiss club Genève-Servette HC from the National League A . There he was able to establish itself in the squad of defenders due to his solid defensive game at first as a regular player and reached Geneva the play-off - Final in the 2009/10 season as well as winning the prestigious Spengler Cup in the years 2013 and 2014 . The right shooter acts since the season 2014/15 as assistant captain of the team and held after several contract extensions a contract until the end of season 2018/19.
After the end of the 2018/19 season, after a total of eleven years and 551 games for the club, he left Servette and moved to SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers .
