Mark Katic (born May 9, 1989 in Porcupine , Ontario ) is a Croatian - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Adler Mannheim in the German Ice Hockey League since April 2018 .
Career
Mark Katic began his career as a hockey player with the Sarnia Sting , for which he was active from 2005 to 2009 in the Canadian top junior league Ontario Hockey League . During this period, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2007 in the third round as a total of 62nd player by the New York Islanders . From 2009 to 2012, the defender played as a regular for their farm team Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the American Hockey League . For the Islanders he came to only 11 appearances in the National Hockey League during the 2010/11 season .
For the 2012/13 season , Katic was signed by the Eisbären Berlin from the German Ice Hockey League , became German champions with the capital city, but moved to KHL Medveščak Zagreb in the Continental Hockey League after only one year . In addition to the games in the KHL, he also took part in the playoff games for the Croatian title with Medveščak and thus became Croatian national champion in 2014 . In December 2016 he won the Canadian selection at the traditional Spengler Cup in Davos .
On February 13, 2017, he moved from Zagreb to the Swedish first division club Skellefteå AIK , with whom he became Swedish runner-up in the 2017/18 season. At the end of April 2018 he was signed by the Adlers Mannheim (German Ice Hockey League). With the eagles he was able to convince again, reaching 32 points in 51 preliminary round games (3 of them goals). In the subsequent play-offs he became German champions with the Adler and completed the play-offs as the defender with the best points (14 points) and the most successful assists (10 assists).
International
For Canada , Katic took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in 2007 and achieved the best plus / minus balance there. He also played for Canada in the Germany Cup in 2012 . In December 2016 he won the Spengler Cup with the Canadian selection .
