José L. Piedra brand cigar

José L. Piedra is a Cuban cigar brand . It is distributed worldwide by Habanos SA . In contrast to the other well-known Habanos brands, it only uses tobacco from the Vuelta Arriba region .

history

The Piedra family came to Cuba from the Spanish province of Asturias in the middle of the 19th century, settled near the city of Santa Clara and started making cigars there. In the second generation, José Lamadrid Piedra developed today's brand in the 1880s. The often rustic and inexpensive cigars are considered to be medium-strong and spicy. The current seven formats of the José L. Piedra are produced in the traditional "totalmente a mano, tripa corta" process. i.e., they are entirely handcrafted short fillers . With the exception of the “Petit Cazadores” format (2007), they were introduced in 1996 after the brand had practically disappeared from the market in the early 1990s. The production of the “Nacionales” format was discontinued in 2013, so that in future only six formats will be on sale.
