Ernst Diepschlag

Ernst Diepschlag (born February 20, 1885 in Wengern , † December 28, 1953 in Freiberg ) was a German metallurgist and university professor.

Life

After graduating from the secondary school in Hagen studied Ernst Diepschlag at the RWTH Aachen and the Mining Academy Berlin ferrous metallurgy . In 1906 he became a member of the Corps Marko-Guestphalia in Aachen . He completed his studies in Berlin in 1911 as a Dipl.-Ing. from.

He began his professional career in 1911 as an operations assistant at Rombacher Hüttenwerke . In 1914 he became the blast furnace operator at the Halbergerhütte in Brebach . In 1920 he received a lectureship in technology and metallurgy at the Polytechnic in Köthen. In 1921 he was appointed professor of iron and steel engineering at the Technical University of Wroclaw , where he became director of the iron and steel institute. From 1923 he also taught foundry science. After fleeing from Breslau in the last days of the war, he first taught chemistry at the Academy of Technology in Chemnitz. From 1946 until his retirement in 1953 he taught iron and steel studies at the Bergakademie Freiberg as institute director , of which he was rector from 1947 to 1949. From 1949 to 1951 he was its Vice Rector. In 1949 he was appointed a full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences .

As head of the "Blast Furnace and Lower Shaft Furnace Commission" of the German Economic Commission, he was responsible for the strategic planning of iron production in the Soviet Zone / GDR. Diepschlag was involved in an advisory capacity in the reconstruction of the Maxhütte in Unterwellenborn ; When building the Eisenhüttenkombinat Ost , he was active in planning and as an expert. He worked scientifically on the production of pig iron , cast iron and steel and their mechanical properties. Diepschlag was the author or co-author of more than 100 publications. He held 28 patents.
