Friedrich Kolbeck

Friedrich Ludwig Wilhelm Kolbeck (born January 12, 1860 in Dresden , † February 6, 1943 in Freiberg ) was a German mineralogist and university professor.

Life

After attending the Annenschule in Dresden, Friedrich Kolbeck studied natural sciences at the University of Leipzig from 1879 to 1883. His academic teachers there included Ferdinand Zirkel , Gustav Heinrich Wiedemann , August Schenk , Rudolf Leuckart , Hermann Credner and Wilhelm Wundt . In 1883 he was awarded Dr. phil. PhD. In the same year he switched to studying engineering at the Bergakademie Freiberg and became a transport guest of the Corps Franconia Freiberg . On October 1, 1884, he was appointed assistant for metallurgy, trial and solder tube trial studies. On October 1st, 1893 he was appointed lecturer and on October 1st, 1896 he was appointed professor for testing and soldering tube testing at the Bergakademie Freiberg. On October 1, 1901, he was appointed full professor of mineralogy and soldering tube testing at the Freiberg Mining Academy as the successor to Albin Weisbach . His retirement took place on March 31, 1928.

Kolbeck was rector of the Freiberg Mining Academy from 1913 to 1915 and from 1922 to 1923. He was the first to describe the mineral Kolbeckite . By taking over numerous levels of the Freiberg district collection, he decisively expanded the mineralogical collection of the Bergakademie.
