Heinz Uhlitzsch

Wolfgang Heinz Uhlitzsch (born August 8, 1893 in Chemnitz ; † June 22, 1971 in Wuppertal ) was a German iron and steel engineer.

Life

Uhlitzsch attended the municipal high school in Bonn and passed the matriculation examination in 1912 . He then worked in the blast furnace and steel works at the Friedrich-Alfred-Hütte in Rheinhausen (Duisburg) . From October 1912 to October 1913 he served as a one-year volunteer with Telegraph Battalion III in Koblenz , after which he began studying at the TH Munich .

Right at the beginning of the First World War he was drafted into military service. He came back on November 20, 1918, continued his studies at the TH Hanover and in 1919 went to the Clausthal mining academy , where he obtained a diploma as an iron and steel engineer in 1921. Until December 31, 1922 he worked in Clausthal as an assistant for metallurgy. On April 14, 1922 he was promoted to Dr.-Ing. PhD.

From 1923 Heinz Uhlitzsch worked in the iron foundry of Krupp-Gruson AG in Magdeburg . In 1926 he went to the Bergakademie Freiberg , where he initially worked as a lecturer for foundries. On July 1, 1927, he was appointed associate professor and head of the foundry chair at the Ironworks Institute. In 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler , and in 1937 he joined the NSDAP . He took part in World War II from September 15, 1939 to September 19, 1940 ; on January 1, 1940, he was appointed full professor of metallurgy. In 1942 he was appointed head of the newly formed foundry institute, and from April 21, 1944 to October 25, 1945 he was rector of the mining academy.

Due to his Nazi past, Heinz Uhlitzsch left the Bergakademie at the end of 1945. Until 1949 he worked for the Soviet technical office "Eisen". From 1950 to 1963 he held a leading position at the iron research institute in Hennigsdorf . In 1954 he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Technician of the People .

Heinz Uhlitzsch retired in 1963 and moved to Wuppertal, where he died in 1971. A street in Hennigsdorf was named after him.
