Klaus Strzodka

Joachim Klaus Strzodka (born August 28, 1927 in Katowice , † April 1, 2005 in Freiberg ) was a German mining engineer and university professor.

Life

Klaus Strzodka grew up in Upper Silesia and graduated from secondary school in 1944. A little later he was called up for military service and was taken prisoner by the Americans. He then worked as a farm worker, auxiliary mechanic and miner, joined the SED and became 1948 on the preliminary establishment of Freiberg university entrance.

From 1948 to 1952 he studied mining in Freiberg . He initially stayed at the Bergakademie, worked as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Opencast Mining and completed his doctorate on June 9, 1954. On October 1, 1954, he went to Lauchhammer , where he worked at the VEB Braunkohlenwerk Friedenswacht as production manager and from November 1, 1956 as technical director. From 1958 to 1963 he worked in the VEB Kombinat Schwarze Pump as a main engineer and at times as a production manager. In 1962 he completed his habilitation at the Bergakademie Freiberg.

At the beginning of 1964 he finally went back to Freiberg. He became director of the German Fuel Institute and board member of the Research Council of the GDR . In 1966 he was appointed professor for mining water management and opencast mining at the Bergakademie. In 1967 he became director of the Institute for Opencast Mining and Head of the Mining / Opencast Mining Department.

After the third university reform in the GDR and the dissolution of the institutes, Klaus Strzodka headed the opencast mining teaching group in the geotechnical and mining section. On September 1, 1969, he was appointed full professor for mining / opencast mining, specializing in conveyor technology and opencast mining systems. In 1970 he also took over the management of the mining department, and from 1974 he headed the mining / open pit science department. Between 1974 and 1977 he was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Technical Sciences, and from 1976 to 1982 he was Rector of the Bergakademie. In 1992 Strzodka was dismissed as a professor at the Bergakademie. He continued to work as a mining expert and appraiser at home and abroad, gave guest lectures in China and Romania and was professor at the Technical University of Wroclaw from 1995 to 1997 .

Klaus Strzodka was a corresponding member from 1977 and a full member from 1985 of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR . He died in Freiberg after a long illness. His grave is on the Donatsfriedhof in Freiberg .
