Helmut Kirchberg

Helmut Kirchberg (born January 31, 1906 in Mainz , † May 23, 1983 in Freiberg ) was a German mining scientist.

Life

Kirchberg studied mining in Freiberg, Aachen and at the Technical University of Berlin , where he obtained his engineering degree in 1929 and his doctorate in 1937.

From 1938 he worked as a research assistant at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Iron Research in Düsseldorf . After his habilitation in 1943 he became professor of mining science at the TH Breslau .

In 1947 he took over a professorship at the Bergakademie Freiberg , a year later he became dean of the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy. From 1953 to 1954 he was rector of the Bergakademie.

In 1954, on his initiative, the Research Institute for Processing was founded, which he headed until his retirement in 1971.

In 1956 he became a corresponding and in 1957 a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR . In 1959 he was honored with the GDR Patriotic Order of Merit in silver and in 1969 with the Labor banner .

Helmut Kirchberg died in Freiberg in 1983.
