Gazmend Oketa (2008)

Gazmend Nuri Oketa (born December 14, 1968 in Durrës ) is an Albanian politician from the New Democratic Wind (FRD) and general secretary of this party.

Career

Between March 22, 2008 and September 17, 2009 he was Minister of Defense of Albania in the Berisha I cabinet . He succeeded Fatmir Mediu , who announced his resignation after the ammunition explosions in Gërdec , but had to give up his post to Arben Imami a year later when Prime Minister Sali Berisha re-established the government after the parliamentary elections in June 2009.

Oketa studied at the Polytechnic University of Tirana in the field of civil engineering . He completed a postgraduate course at the University of Siegen .

Gazmend Oketa was elected to the Durrës City Council as a candidate for the Democratic Party of Albania (PD) in 2003 . Between 2004 and 2012 he was Vice President of the PD in the Durrës section. Oketa was a member of the PD in the Albanian Parliament .

In April 2012, he and other party colleagues from the PD founded the New Democratic Wind , which the former President Bamir Topi later joined. Oketa became general secretary and Topi party chairman in November 2012.
