Arben Fahri Imami (born January 21, 1958 in Tirana ) is an Albanian politician ( PD ). Between 2009 and 2013 he was Minister of Defense in the Berisha II cabinet .

Life

education

In 1981 Arben Imami finished his studies at the  Instituti i lartë i artëve art school in Tirana . He later worked as a lecturer at the university, which was renamed the University of the Arts . Between 1999 and 2000 he studied with a research fellowship at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, DC in the USA .

Political career

In 1990/91 he took part in the student protests in the capital and was one of the founders of the Democratic Party of Albania, which he still belongs to today. In the 1991 elections, Imami was elected to Kuvendi i Shqipërisë and became his party's parliamentary group president.

In 1992 Arben Imami, Neritan Ceka , Preç Zogaj and other members split from the Democratic Party and founded the Democratic Alliance (AD). In the following parliamentary elections in 1992, 1996, 1997 and 2001 he was re-elected to parliament. From 1997 to 1999 Imami was Minister for Legal Reforms and Parliamentary Relations in the socialist governments of Fatos Nano and Pandeli Majko . He was Minister of Justice in 2000 and 2001, and Minister of Local Government and Decentralization under Ilir Meta from 2001 to 2002 .

Imami and his former party colleague Sali Berisha , chairman of the Democratic Party, repeatedly had disagreements and repeatedly made serious accusations against each other. But in 2005 their longstanding dispute was settled. Imami left the AD and switched back to the PD. Berisha made Imami head of cabinet . In 2009, Imami was appointed Minister of Defense for Berisha's second cabinet .

After the change of government in September 2013, Mimi Kodheli ( PS ) became Minister of Defense in the new Rama I cabinet . She immediately began making serious allegations against Imamis and by April 2014 had filed a total of five complaints with the public prosecutor's office . He is accused of abuse of office during an election campaign and illegal wiretapping.

Acting career

Imami has in two productions of cinema studios Shqipëria e Re participated in: 1979 Movie Balle Balle për where Ismail Kadare was a producer, and in 1980 in the film Stine Në CDO with Anisa Markarian .

Private

Imami is married and has two children.
