Neritan Ceka
Neritan Ceka (born February 11, 1941 in Tirana ) is an Albanian archaeologist and politician. Since 1992 he has been chairman of the liberal Aleanca Demokratike party . Until 2009 he was a member of his party in the Albanian parliament .
Neritan Ceka is the son of Hasan Ceka , who founded archeology as a science in Albania. He studied at the University of Tirana and, like his father, became an archaeologist. His work focuses on the Illyrians and Greeks in Classical and Hellenistic times as well as provincial Roman archeology . He was a professor at the University of Tirana and from 1985 to 1990 head of the architecture department at the archaeological institute, which he headed from 1990 to 1993 as director. He is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute .
Neritan Ceka was one of the founders of the Democratic Party at the turn of the year 1990/91 . After Albania's first pluralistic elections in 1991, he led the Democratic parliamentary group. As early as 1992, Ceka criticized President Sali Berisha's authoritarian leadership style and the lack of intra-party pluralism among the Democrats. He resigned from the party and founded the liberal Aleanca Demokratie. After the 1997 elections, he led his party into a coalition with the socialists . In 1997 and 1998 he was a member of the government of Fatos Nano as Minister of the Interior. In the parliamentary elections of 2005, Ceka was able to win another mandate. In 2009, however, Ceka lost his seat in parliament.
