Hasan Ceka

Hasan Ceka (born August 25, 1900 in Elbasan , † January 11, 1998 in Tirana ) was an Albanian prehistorian and writer .

biography

Hasan Ceka attended a Turkish-speaking primary school in Macedonia until 1910 before returning to his home country Albania. In November 1919 his family sent him to Austria , first to Wels , then to Linz .

After graduating from school in 1925, he studied at the University of Vienna , where he also graduated in 1930. He then specialized in archeology . In Tirana he directed the archaeological museum, which was still small at the time, and excavated under the direction of Léon Rey in Apollonia and under Luigi Maria Ugolini in Butrint . From 1942 to November 1944 he worked as Secretary General in the Ministry of Education . After the war he continued to work for the museum. From 1947 to 1972 he conducted excavations in Apollonia until he retired. His son is the archaeologist and politician Neritan Ceka .
