Karl-Friedrich Lüdemann

Karl-Friedrich Lüdemann (born June 7, 1912 in Lennep ; † May 29, 1967 in Dresden ) was a German ironworker and university professor.

Life

After graduating from the Albertinum in Freiberg, Karl-Friedrich Lüdemann studied metallurgy at the Freiberg Bergakademie from the summer semester of 1931 . At the beginning of his studies he became a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia . In 1935 he completed his studies as a Dipl.-Ing. from. In 1936 he went to the Hagen-Haspe steelworks of Klöckner-Werke AG, where he was a steelworks assistant, deputy operations manager and most recently operations manager. In 1940 he switched to the Königshütte of Königs- und Bismarckhütte AG in Upper Silesia as head of the steelworks. From 1942 to 1944 he took part in the Second World War as an officer. After being seriously wounded, he returned to the Königshütte.

After the end of the Second World War , he became a research assistant at the Eisenhütteninstitut of the Bergakademie Freiberg. In 1946 he became a research associate in the Soviet Iron Technical Office in Freiberg. In 1947 he became chief engineer in the Silbitz steelworks . In 1950 he was appointed head of department at the Hennigsdorf Iron Research Institute. As a part-time job , he carried out a lectureship in metallurgy from 1951 at the Humboldt University in Berlin . After graduating from the Technical University of Dresden as a Dr.-Ing. had received his doctorate, the Humboldt University Berlin appointed him honorary professor.

In 1956 he was appointed Professor of Metallurgy and Director of the Institute of Metallurgy at the Bergakademie Freiberg to succeed Wolfgang Küntscher . He held the chair until his death. In addition, he was director of the Institute for Special Steel Studies from 1957 to 1960 and acting director of the Institute for Economics, Organization and Planning of Metallurgy from 1957 to 1958 and from 1960 to 1962. From 1958 to 1963 he was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Economics and from 1965 until his death Rector of the Bergakademie.

In his scientific work he dealt with the theoretical foundations of iron and steel production.

Lüdemann died in Dresden in 1967 and was buried in the Donatsfriedhof in Freiberg.

Memberships

Lüdemann became a member of the NSDAP in 1937 and the SED in 1963. From 1957 to 1961 he was a city councilor in Freiberg. In 1959 he was appointed a corresponding member, in 1961 a full member and in 1963 a member of the Presidium of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin . In 1963 he became a member of the Research Council of the GDR . In 1951 he received the ribbon from the Corps Saxo-Montania zu Freiberg and Dresden in Aachen, which was restituted at RWTH Aachen University in Germany .
