The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium is a grammar school in Freiberg .

history

In 1515 Ulrich Rülein von Calw , humanist and mayor of Freiberg, founded the Latin school, which is considered to be the first humanistic grammar school in Saxony. In 1910 Otto Eduard Schmidt (educator and writer) became rector of the Albertinum grammar school. In 2005, after extensive renovation measures, the extended building complex, consisting of the "Albertinum" and "Dürer" houses , as well as the sports facility with the three-field gym "Ulrich Rülein" was inaugurated .

The "Haus Albertinum" was founded in 1515. The foundation stone of today's house was laid on July 17, 1873. On October 12, 1875, it was inaugurated and named after the Saxon King Albert . In 1925 the "Higher Girls' School" was incorporated. In connection with this there were serious structural changes.

In the years 1984–1985 and 2002–2005, renovation work and extensions took place.

In the years 1902 to 1903 the "House Dürer" was built on the lower Pfarrgasse and was thus III. Citizen School of the City. In 1928 the school was renamed "Dürerschule". In the war years 1941–1945 the house was used as a hospital. In 1963 it was divided into "Albrecht Dürer" I and II secondary schools. Since 1992 the building has belonged to the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium.

Renovation work took place in 1976–1978 and 2001–2002.

Andreas Möller Library

The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Freiberg has a historic high school library, which is named after the chronicler Andreas Möller today. It is one of the few preserved historical school libraries in the area of ​​the former GDR . The library has an old stock of 6,400 titles, which makes up around 60 percent of the total stock. Among them is the Codex Fribergensis , a manuscript of the New Testament in German from around 1430, and 524 incunabula in 344 volumes as well as 11 fragments of cradle prints.
