Theodor Erhard (full name: Christian Hugo Theodor Erhard ; born October 28, 1839 in Dresden , † April 6, 1919 in Freiberg ) was a German electrophysicist.

Life

From 1858 to 1863 he studied at the Bergakademie Freiberg . In 1860 he became a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia . He completed his studies with the state examination as a metallurgical and mining engineer. He then worked in various steelworks in Muldenhütten and Halsbrücke . In 1867 he became head of the Mulden arsenic works and pottery factory. From September 1867 he gave lectures on physics at the Bergakademie Freiberg, and in 1868 he got a permanent position as professor for physics, mathematics and descriptive geometry. In 1874, Theodor Erhard received his doctorate from the University of Leipzig. In 1881 he visited the International Electricity Exhibition in Paris , and immediately afterwards, in the winter semester of 1881/82, he gave his first lecture on electrical engineering in Freiberg . In the following years he wrote several books on this subject.

From 1907 to 1909 he was the rector of the Bergakademie. In 1912 he retired.

On June 15, 1993 a memorial plaque was placed in his honor at the Freiberg Institute for Electrical Engineering.

Awards

In addition to other high honors, Theodor Erhard received the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Albrecht Order with the Crown in 1903 .
