As a student of Adolf Ledebur , he completed his studies as a graduate engineer and began a career in the German steel industry. In 1886 he was a civil servant, the name for an employee at the time, in the Peine ironworks. Later he rose to the position of technical director of the Annen cast steel works . From this position in 1906 he was appointed full professor of iron and steel technology and mechanical technology and director of the Freiberg ironworks institute as successor to Ledebur at the Freiberg mining academy. He held the professorship until 1925. As a man of practice, he placed a focus on practice-oriented teaching and research, with little consideration given to the further development of the scientific basis.

In 1907 Galli was named a non-permanent member of the Reich Patent Office. From 1915 to 1917 he was rector of the Bergakademie Freiberg.

Galli was married to a daughter of Bernhard Braunsdorf . He died in Freiberg in 1927 and was buried in the Donatsfriedhof .
