history

Passenrieth is one of the oldest settlements that arose at the beginning of the 11th century when the area of today's Eslarn was cleared and settled. These oldest settlements are today's districts of Büchelberg, Putzhof, Oberaltmannsrieth, Putzenrieth, Passenrieth, Gmeinsrieth (originally: Mansenrieth) and Öd (originally: Behaimrieth, which is Böhmer- or Böhmischrieth). The ending -rieth indicates clearing. The place name comes from the personal name Passo or Passel.

Count Rapoto von Abenberg exchanged goods at Passenrieth in 1162 at the diocese of Regensburg.

During the Thirty Years' War , Passenrieth suffered a lot, especially during the battles between Count Ernst von Mansfeld and the Bavarian Lieutenant General Freiherr Johann Tserklas von Tilly , which took place from 1620 to 1621 in the area of Waidhaus and Eslarn. During these battles the largest farm and two other farms at Passenrieth were plundered and burned down.

In 1628 Passenrieth had 3 farms, 1 manor and 1 hut and paid 17 guilders 59 1/2 Kreuzer annual tax.

After the end of the Thirty Years War , Passenrieth had 8 households.

On March 23, 1913 (Easter), Passenrieth was listed as part of the Eslarn parish with 7 houses and 56 inhabitants. On December 31, 1990, Passenrieth had 19 residents and belonged to the parish of Eslarn.
