Öd is a district of the Eslarn market in the Upper Palatinate district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab . The hamlet has a restaurant and a cheese dairy.

Geographical location

The desert is about two kilometers north of Eslarn on the western slope of the 568 m high Geisbühl. The Bocklradweg runs on the former Neustadt - Eslarn railway line to the northwest of Öd at a distance of about 500 m . In the north of Öd there is an extensive forest area up to the German-Czech border.

The neighboring towns are Zankltrad in the south and Büchelberg in the south-east .

history

The district of Öd was originally called Behaimrieth, which is Böhmer- or Böhmischrieth. It was so named because of its location north of Büchelberg towards the Bohemian border. Öd is one of the oldest settlements that arose at the beginning of the 11th century when the area of today's Eslarn was cleared and settled. These oldest settlements are the current districts of Büchelberg, Putzhof, Oberaltmannsrieth, Putzenrieth, Paßenrieth, Gmeinsrieth (originally: Mansenrieth) and Öd (originally: Behaimrieth, which is Böhmer- or Böhmischrieth). The ending rieth indicates clearing. In 1266, Öd (then still: Behaimrieth) was destroyed in a Bohemian attack under Ottokar II . After that it was deserted for a long time and was therefore no longer called Behaimrieth, but only "the wasteland". This name has been preserved to this day and has replaced the original name. The owner of Öd as part of the estate around Eslarn was Ruger the Punzinger since 1325. In 1329 Öd was separated from Bavaria by the house contract of Pavia and came to the Palatinate in Bavaria (later "Upper Palatinate" and finally "Upper Palatinate") and thus became part of the Electoral Palatinate. In 1334 Öd was settled again and was given to Landgrave Ulrich I von Leuchtenberg by Heinrich the Plankenfelser, who had received it as a fief from the Punzinger . In 1383 the Punzinger sold Öd as part of their Eslarner possessions to Albrecht Krätzlein von Neysan (= Neusath), who however could not afford the purchase price, so that Öd remained in the possession of the brothers Ruger, Ulrich and Friedrich Punzinger. In 1384 they reached an agreement with the old and young Landgraves of Leuchtenberg, Johann and Albrecht, about the definition of the border between Öd, the Holz Pirkach and the Pfrentschweiher, which the Leuchtenbergers had created. During the Thirty Years' War Öd suffered a lot, especially during the battles between Count Ernst von Mansfeld and the Bavarian Lieutenant General Freiherr Johann Tserklas von Tilly , which took place in the area of Waidhaus and Eslarn from 1620 to 1621 . Harvest failures, famine and the plague made the situation even worse for the residents. In 1628, Öd was awarded as part of Eslarn and thus the Upper Palatinate to Elector Maximilian of Bavaria and thus reunited with Bavaria. On March 23, 1913 (Easter), Öd was listed as part of the Eslarn parish with 2 houses and 8 residents. On December 31, 1990 Öd had 5 residents and belonged to the parish Eslarn.
