Helmut Härtig

Helmut Härtig (born March 24, 1902 in Pirna ; † November 10, 1997 in Kassel ) was a German mining scientist .

Life

Härtig graduated from high school in Pirna in 1921. In the same year he went to study at the Bergakademie Freiberg , where he obtained two diplomas: as a Markscheider (1924) and as a mining engineer (1925). He studied geophysics for one semester (1924/25) at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg .

After completing his studies, he worked in various opencast mining companies. In 1930 he received his doctorate from the Clausthal mining academy . In 1933 he joined the NSDAP .

In 1953 he became professor for opencast mining and first director of the institute for opencast mining at the Bergakademie Freiberg. In 1955 he co-founded the Fuel Technology Society in the GDR and in 1956 co-founded the German Fuel Institute .

From 1957 to 1959 Helmut Härtig was Rector of the Bergakademie. In 1961 he became a corresponding and in 1964 a full member of the German Academy of Sciences . In 1967 he retired.
