Friedrich von Anhalt (1732–1793)

Friedrich von Anhalt (born May 21, 1732 in Kleckewitz , † June 2, 1794 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Count of Anhalt from the house of the Ascanians and a Prussian, Saxon and Russian general.

origin

Friedrich was a son of the Hereditary Prince Wilhelm Gustav von Anhalt-Dessau (1699–1737) from his morganatic marriage to Johanne Sophie Herre (1706–1795). The marriage of his parents was only confessed to his grandfather, Prince Leopold I , on his father's deathbed . The children recommended in this marriage lived at Gut Kleckewitz near Raguhn and the princely grandfather only brought Friedrich's eldest brother to the Dessau court.

In 1749, the younger brother of his father, Prince Leopold II , had the widow and her children elevated to the rank of imperial counts as Countesses of Anhalt.

Life

Friedrich took part in the campaigns of the Second Silesian War . He came in 1747 as a lieutenant in Infantry Regiment No. 10, the chief of which was his uncle Field Marshal Dietrich von Anhalt-Dessau, and in 1749 he became its adjutant general. In 1750 he became adjutant to Leopold II von Anhalt-Dessau and in 1751 brought news of his death to Berlin. In the same year he became a wing adjutant to the Prussian King Friedrich II and later major general. After the battle of Prague he became major and adjutant general of Prince Henry. After the battle of Kolin he took over a grenadier battalion. In the battle near Moys he was badly wounded in the arm and was taken prisoner in Austria. He received the best medical care, but his arm remained paralyzed for life. It was exchanged in 1758 and returned to military service despite its injury. In the battle of Zorndorf he then acquired the Pour le Mérite . In 1768 he became chief of the East Prussian "Lehwaldt on foot regiment" . In 1771 he became major general, in 1776 he resigned from the Prussian service , as his regiment had been in disgrace since the Seven Years' War and he believed himself to be defeated, and switched to the Saxon army as lieutenant general and received the "Thiele walking regiment" . Finally he went to Russia in 1783. There he received a salary of 12,000 rubles and other benefits. He became adjutant general to Tsarina Catherine II , who also made him head of the cadet school and the office of president of the Economic Society. He was buried in the Volkovo Cemetery in St Petersburg.
