Dietrich Rotter

Dietrich Rotter (born February 17, 1929 in Waldenburg ; † December 17, 1984 in Dresden ) was a German mining engineer and university professor.

Life

Dietrich Rotter grew up as the son of a tailor in Lower Silesia , where he began an apprenticeship as an electrician in 1945 , but had to leave his home country before graduating. He worked for a few months as a construction worker in Aue and joined the SED . In 1946 he went to Freiberg , where he continued his training at the capacitor factory and in 1948 passed the journeyman's examination. In 1950 he graduated from the workers and farmers faculty of the Bergakademie Freiberg , after which he began to study mining at the Bergakademie . From 1951 he continued his studies at the Moscow Mining Institute, which he finished in 1956 as a qualified mining engineer.

After completing his studies, Dietrich Rotter worked in the hard coal mining industry in Saxony. On September 1, 1959, he became a scientific adviser in the class for mining, metallurgy and mining geology at the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin . In 1964 he did his doctorate at the Bergakademie Freiberg as Dr.-Ing. From April 1964 to August 1966 he headed the working group for mining geophysics in the Freiberg branch of the Institute for Geodynamics Jena . On September 1, 1966, the branch was affiliated to the Institute for Applied Geophysics of the Freiberg Mining Academy, and Rotter took over management. From January 1969 to the end of April 1970 he worked at the Bergakademie as director of research.

On May 1, 1970, he was appointed professor of geomechanics, on May 7, he finished his PhD B , and on June 12, 1970, he became rector of the mining academy. He worked in this function until September 29, 1976. From May 1972 to 1978 he was chairman of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district council of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship . In 1975, Rotter was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze. From 1978 he headed the geomechanics science department of the geotechnics and mining section at the Bergakademie. Dietrich Rotter died on December 17th, 1984 after a long and serious illness.
