Career

Petr Ton started his career in 1991 in his hometown in the junior team of Poldi SONP Kladno . A year later he made his debut in the men's team of the club in the top Czechoslovak league and won the first regular season with his team in the Czech Extra League, which was newly founded in 1993 . However, HC Kladno was eliminated in the playoff semifinals against eventual champions HC Olomouc . In the following years Petr Ton established himself within the team. During the 1997/98 season he got a contract offer from Finland from Jokerit , played the rest of the season for this club in the SM-liiga and reached the playoff semifinals with Jokerit. Despite this success and the associated qualification for the European Hockey League , he moved to league competitor Espoo Blues in the summer of 1998 . A year later he signed a contract with JYP Jyväskylä and met his compatriot Jaroslav Bednář there . At JYP he spent a total of three seasons and was twice the best scorer of his team, but JYP always missed the playoffs. For the 2002/03 season he signed a contract with Oulun Kärpät and reached the playoff final with the "Wieseln", which however was lost 3-0 to Tappara .

Before the 2003/04 season , Ton returned to the Czech Republic and accepted a contract offer from HC Sparta Prague , where he has played since then. In the 2005/06 season he won the Czech championship title with Sparta and was the top scorer in the league. A year later Sparta won the championship again. In the 2007/08 season Petr Ton was top scorer in the Extraliga, but retired with HC Sparta in the playoff quarter-finals.

In the following years he was still one of the top performers at Sparta, temporarily acting as assistant captain of the club and was named top scorer in the league two more times (2010 and 2014). In the 2013/14 season he was also awarded 67 points in the Extraliga top scorer and was consequently named Player of the Year . After the 2013/14 season he did not receive a new contract with Sparta despite these services and then received various offers from clubs in the Extraliga, but did not rule out a move to other European countries. Ultimately, he decided on a contract with HC Kometa Brno . There he was the team's top scorer and top scorer in his first season with 22 goals and 20 assists. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he was injured, so that he was only able to play again in January 2016 and played 19 games for Kometa before the ongoing contract was terminated by mutual agreement.

In May 2016 he returned to his hometown club in Kladno, which now played in the second-rate first division . In the first division play-offs in spring 2017, he injured himself and later underwent hand surgery. From October 2017 he was preparing for a comeback and received contract offers from various European leagues. Ultimately, he officially ended his career for health reasons in February 2018. With a total of 384 goals he is the reigning record scorer in the Extraliga, and he also scored a total of 767 points in 912 Extraliga games.

International

Petr Ton has only taken part in international championships once in his career: he was appointed to the squad for the U20 World Cup in 1993 , scored one goal and five assists during the tournament and won the bronze medal with the ČSFR U20 selection. For the Czech national team Ton has so far completed 17 international matches, in which he scored six goals.
