Alexei Pavlovich Kaigorodow ( Russian Алексей Павлович Кайгородов ; born July 29, 1983 in Chelyabinsk , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player .
Career
Kaigorodow played at HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk when he was young . There he was active until the summer of 2006, before he had a brief guest appearance with the Ottawa Senators from the National Hockey League in autumn 2006 , where he played six games. They had selected him in the second round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft in 47th place and needed a center forward for their second row for the 2006/07 season . Since the Russian could not meet expectations, he was first sent to the Binghamton Senators , Ottawa's farm team in the American Hockey League . However, the striker refused to play there and immediately returned to his home club in Russia. The Senators then suspended their former draft pick on November 4, 2006 and transferred the rights to his person in January 2007 for Mike Comrie to the Phoenix Coyotes .
In the following 6 years Kaigorodow was active exclusively for his home club in the Super League and Continental Hockey League and was with this 2007 Russian champion . In 2008 he won the IIHF European Champions Cup with Metallurg . In October 2012, the contract between Metallurg and Kaigorodow, which ran until 2012, was terminated and a few days later he received a contract until 2014 with Salawat Julajew Ufa .
At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, Kaigorodow was under contract with Barys Astana , but was released at the end of October 2015 and signed a few days later by HK Dynamo Moscow .
International
Kaigorodow was appointed to the Russian national team for the first time in 2003 and had two appearances at the 2003 World Cup . In the following years he was repeatedly used in games of the Euro Hockey Tour for the Sbornaja , but was never nominated for a world championship squad. It was not until 2011 that he was appointed to the national team for the World Cup in Slovakia and played 8 games in which he collected 4 points.
