Michael William "Mike" Comrie (born September 11, 1980 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 621 games for the Edmonton Oilers , Philadelphia Flyers , Phoenix Coyotes , Ottawa Senators in the course of his active career between 2000 and 2011 , New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League on the position of the center . With the Canadian national team Comrie won the gold medal at the 2003 World Cup .
Career
The 1.78 m tall center began his career in various amateur leagues, during his student days he played for the University of Michigan team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , a league in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In the 1999 NHL Entry Draft , the left-handed shooter was finally selected in 91st place in the third round by the Edmonton Oilers from the National Hockey League .
In the 2000/01 season Comrie completed his first NHL appearances for the Oilers, two seasons later he finally asked to be transferred to another team, so that he finally moved in exchange for Jeff Woywitka and two draft picks to the Philadelphia Flyers . For Philadelphia, Mike Comrie was on the ice 21 times and was finally transferred to the Phoenix Coyotes during the 2003/04 season for Sean Burke , Branko Radivojevič and the rights to Ben Eager .
During the NHL lockout of the 2004/05 NHL season , the Canadian played for the Swedish first division club Färjestad BK , after which he was still part of the Coyotes squad. In August 2006, the franchise from Phoenix extended the contract with Comrie for another year, once again he reached a 30-goal season in Phoenix, but was transferred to the Ottawa Senators on January 3, 2007 in exchange for Alexei Kaigorodow . With the Senators, the striker reached the final of the Stanley Cup , but there the team lost in five games against the Anaheim Ducks .
On 5 July 2007 signed Mike Comrie as a free agent a one-year contract worth 3,375,000 US dollars at the New York Islanders . In 2009 Comrie moved back to the Ottawa Senators, but played there only a short season and then went back to his draft club, the Edmonton Oilers. In September 2010, Comrie agreed on a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins . On February 13, 2012, he announced his resignation after the third hip operation in five years.

family
His father, Bill Comrie, is the founder of The Brick , a Canadian chain of furniture and furniture stores . The entrepreneur has private assets of several hundred million Canadian dollars and was temporarily on the list of the 100 richest Canadians. His brother Paul and his half-brother Eric also made it into the NHL as professional ice hockey players.
Comrie was dating actress Hilary Duff since early 2007 . They were married on August 14, 2010 in Santa Barbara, California . Their son was born on March 20, 2012. In January 2014, they announced their split.
