Ivan Majeský (born September 2, 1976 in Banská Bystrica , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak ice hockey player . In the National Hockey League , he completed a total of 202 games for the Florida Panthers , Atlanta Thrashers and Washington Capitals . In the Swedish Elitserien he was active for Linköpings HC and Skellefteå AIK , in Finland for Jokerit Helsinki and Ilves Tampere as well as for various clubs in the Slovak and Czech extra leagues .

Career

Ivan Majeský began his career as a hockey player at the ŠaHK Iskra Banská Bystrica , for which he was active in the Slovak Extra League from 1995 to 1999 , before moving to their league rivals HKm Zvolen shortly before the end of the 1998/99 season. With Zvolen he was runner-up in the following season. The defender then signed a contract with Ilves Tampere , for which he was on the ice for two years in the Finnish SM-liiga . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2001 in the ninth round as a total of 267th player by the Florida Panthers , for which he completed all 82 regular season games in the National Hockey League in the 2002/03 season . After a season the Slovak left the Panthers again and also played for their league rivals Atlanta Thrashers for a season .

Due to the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season , Majeský returned to Europe, where he played for HC Sparta Prague from the Czech extra league. After resumption of play in the NHL, the Slovak returned to North America, where he received a one-year contract with the Washington Capitals . The right-handed shooter only stayed with the Capitals for one season before returning to Europe. In the following three seasons he started the season twice at Kärpät Oulu and once for HIFK Helsinki from the SM-liiga in order to receive a tax-deductible half-year contract in Sweden. There the Slovak finished the season at the Elitserien club Linköpings HC . With the Swedes he was runner-up in 2007 and 2008. The 2009/10 season he began as a loan player in the Czech Extra League at HC Kladno and then played for Skellefteå AIK in the Elitserien. In the following season he was also Swedish runner-up with the Skellefteå AIK.

He started the following two seasons at HC Kladno from the Czech extra league and moved to Scandinavia at the turn of the year, once to Linköpings HC and in 2013 to Jokerit . For the 2014/15 season he was loaned from HC Kladno to HC Olomouc . Majeský then announced the end of his career, but returned to the ice for his home club in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons.

International

For Slovakia Majesky participated in the World Championships in 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2008 , 2010 and 2011 in part. He was also part of the Slovak squad at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
