Maxime Talbot (born February 11, 1984 in LeMoyne , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who was active in the National Hockey League for eleven years and won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009 . He also played at HK Awangard Omsk and Lokomotive Yaroslavl in the Continental Hockey League .
Career
The 1.80 m tall center began his professional career with various teams in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , before he was selected ( drafted ) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft as 234th in the eighth round of the Pittsburgh Penguins . With the Olympiques de Hull , the left-handed shooter won the Coupe du Président , the championship of the LHJMQ, in 2003 . He was also voted Most Valuable Player of the LHJMQ play-offs twice in a row .
For the 2004/05 season , Talbot finally signed a contract with the Penguins, which, due to the lockout, initially used it with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , their farm team in the American Hockey League . Although he could not immediately implement his offensive qualities, which he had shown in the QMJHL, in the senior league, he still ended his first season with 19 points scorer . Due to good training performance, the attacker made it into the NHL roster of the Pittsburgh franchise at the beginning of the following season , and made his debut in the highest North American professional league at the start of the season against the New Jersey Devils . After 48 NHL missions, however, the Canadian was initially sent back to Wilkes-Barre.
After just five games in the following AHL season , Talbot was called back by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the NHL squad, in which he has since established himself as a regular. In 2008 the striker reached the final of the Stanley Cup , the North American ice hockey championship, with the franchise , but the team lost this against the Detroit Red Wings . In the following year, however, Talbot was able to return the favor. In a new edition of the previous year's final, the Center of the Penguins secured the 4-3 victory in the series for the Stanley Cup 2009 against last year's winner Detroit Red Wings. Talbot scored both goals in the decisive 2-1 win at the Detroit Joe Louis Arena and was the match winner in the decisive seventh game for the Stanley Cup.
On July 1, 2011, the free agent agreed on a long-term contract with the Philadelphia Flyers . On October 31, 2013 he was transferred from the Flyers to the Colorado Avalanche , Philadelphia received the winger Steve Downie in return .
After a year and a half in Colorado, the Avalanche and Paul Carey handed him over to the Boston Bruins , with the Bruins transferring Jordan Caron and a six- round vote for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft to Colorado. After a year and a half with the Bruins, Talbot moved back to Europe when he joined Lokomotive Yaroslavl from the Continental Hockey League . In July 2018, shortly before Talbot's arrival in Russia, Lokomotive terminated the contractual relationship at short notice in return for payment of compensation. A few days later he moved to HK Awangard Omsk together with David Desharnais . With Awangard he reached the final of the Gagarin Cup , in which Awangard was defeated by HK CSKA Moscow . He then ended his playing career and became a player agent at CCA Hockey .

With the Canadian national team Maxime Talbot won the silver medal at the U20 Junior World Championships in Helsinki in 2004 . During the tournament, the striker acted as assistant captain and scored three assists in six games .
