Neukirchen am Inn is a parish village and the largest village in the municipality of Neuburg am Inn in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau . The town hall of the municipality is also located here.

The place is about ten kilometers southwest of Passau on a ridge between the Danube and Inn . The area belonged to the county of Neuburg . The Passau Provost Gumpold von Porenhaim, who died around 1140, bequeathed his Sconave estate (Schonawe, Schönau) to the Vornbach monastery . The associated chapel, mentioned in a document in 1144, was elevated to a branch church on May 16, 1189 .

history

Abbot Marquard had a new building built in 1297, of which the tower still stands today. The church was consecrated in 1363. Since this new building, the name Niuchirchen has also appeared in foresto . In 1488, under Abbot Leonhard von Vornbach, the church was built completely new and much larger. Since the tower of the old, smaller church was left in place, the structure was given a peculiarly compact appearance.

In 1517 the county of Neuburg got the property right over the place with the condition that in the village there was a St. Mass must be read. In 1785 Neukirchen received its own vicar . After the abolition of the Vornbach monastery in 1803 and the dissolution of the county of Neuburg in 1803/1804, Neukirchen finally belonged to Bavaria in 1806 and was elevated to a parish in the same year .

The local volunteer fire brigade was founded on August 15, 1882, the war memorial was inaugurated on June 5, 1921, and the new morgue on November 1, 1928. The SV Neukirchen / Inn eV was founded in 1953. On July 4, 1954, Pastor Haydn rededicated the war memorial that had been redesigned after the Second World War .

As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , on January 1, 1972, the municipalities of Neukirchen am Inn (1719 inhabitants), Neuburg am Inn (1078 inhabitants), a large part of the municipality of Eglsee and the hamlet of Niederreisching from the former municipality of Engertsham (together 279 inhabitants) became Municipality of Neuburg am Inn with headquarters in Neukirchen merged. On November 24, 1993 Neukirchen received a kindergarten, on November 23, 1994 the new parish home was inaugurated.

The late Gothic parish church of St. John the Baptist has modern furnishings with Gothic and Baroque figures.
