The first written mention of the place on the presumed old Roman road via Augusta comes from the year 1125. The Lords of Engertsham appeared early on in the wake of the Ortenburgers . Around 1220, Count Rapoto II von Ortenburg handed over property in Engilhartsheim to the Passau cathedral chapter .

Engertsham formed a chairman in the Bavarian district court Griesbach on the border with the county of Neuburg . It was not until the 18th century that the Hofmark Inzing emerged from the inn, the Hofmark Engertsham. Until it was dissolved, it remained associated with Hofmark Inzing.

The parish Engertsham existed since 1803. 1811 was from the chairman shaft formed the control district Engertsham from which the community Engertsham emerged. It belonged to the Griesbach Regional Court until 1838 and then came to the newly established Passau II Regional Court. The Engertsham 2nd Class Patrimonial Court was repealed in 1848. With the opening of the Passau – Neumarkt-Sankt Veit railway with the Engertsham station in 1888, Engertsham received a railway connection.

In the course of the regional reform in Bavaria , the municipality of Engertsham was dissolved with effect from January 1, 1972. Most of it came to the Fürstenzell community, the Niederreisching part to the Neuhaus am Inn community .
