The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Michael is a late Gothic hall church in the Engertsham district of Fürstenzell in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau . It belongs to the parish of St. Michael Engertsham in the Pocking deanery of the Diocese of Passau .

History and architecture

The church was once a branch church and later a vicariate of the church in Tettenweis . From 1649 to 1699 it was co-administered by the Vornbach monastery , then again by Tettenweis. After 1803 the church in Engertsham became the seat of a parish and since 1974 it has been incorporated into the Fürstenzell parish association.

The church was rebuilt using an older tower in the mid-15th century. The building is divided by two detached buttresses , which are provided with an angular center piece on the nave, the tower stands on the south side of the choir and has a baroque octagonal upper floor with a dome from 1754. The church was extended by two bays in 1963. The choir was moved to the north to take account of the tower and consists of two bays with five-eighths . The church is a characteristic example of a late Gothic country church in the region.

The structure is closed off by ribbed vaults over polygonal wall services , the lower part of which is cut off from the side walls. Vine paintings and star patterns were exposed on the vault; The small keystones in all the crossings of the ribs are also painted. The slightly elevated nave consisted of four yokes up to the extension and is closed with a ribbed vault in six-diamond figuration over round services, which are in front of the strong wall templates. The west gallery was formerly bricked and arched; it was replaced with in- situ concrete when the structure was extended .

Furnishing

A carved relief of the fourteen helpers who crowd around a crescent moon Madonna is a remarkable work from around 1510/1520, probably from a Passau workshop and was inserted into the neo-Gothic high altar. The densely packed saints are three-quarters round and were later given a new version. Five bronze bells, three of which date from the 18th century, serve as the peal.

Surroundings

The Marienkapelle is located south of the church on the renewed cemetery wall. It is a small two-bay hall with a retracted polygonal choir, which is closed off with a tiled roof with a ridge turret. Vine paintings with the year 1523 were uncovered in the choir.
