Franz Braun (born April 14, 1923 in Hennef / Sieg; † September 27, 2016 in Cologne) was a German amateur magician and collector of playing cards . For many years he was the publisher and editor-in-chief of the magazine MAGIE of the Magical Circle of Germany . Braun worked full-time as an insurance employee.

Life

After graduating from high school, Franz Braun became a soldier with assignments in Russia and Italy . In 1945 he returned to Cologne from the war and began a volunteer time with an architect. However, since he could not find a place at university, he began training with a Cologne insurance company and stayed there for around 40 years.

At the age of 12, Franz Braun saw a magician at a flea market who fascinated him so much that he became a customer of the Janos Bartl magic shop in Hamburg and bought his first magic tricks there. Soon he was giving little magic demonstrations to relatives and school friends. During his military service and in hospital stays, sorcery helped him in many ways.

From 1960 to 1965 Franz Braun was the editor of the association magazine MAGIE .

In 1962 he was awarded the Karl Schröder Memorial Ring in recognition of his achievements . In 1963, together with Hans Mirbach, he organized a large magic congress in Bad Neuenahr .

In 1967 he published his own magical magazine Die Zauberkugel .

Franz Braun was also known around the world as a specialist in collecting cards . From 1964 to 1967 he brought the magazine Die Spielkarte on the market on this subject .

Since 1988 the series Spielkarten has also been self-published .

Franz Braun was buried on October 10, 2016 in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (hallway 88 no. 37).
