Dominic Dobson
Dominic Dobson (born September 14, 1957 in Stuttgart , Germany ) is an American racing car driver . He took part in the Indy Car World Series from 1985 to 1994 and started a total of 55 races. He achieved his best overall placement in 1994 with 18th place.
Career
Dobson was runner-up in the ICSCC Formula Ford in 1978 . From 1983 to 1985 he took part in a total of ten races in the US Formula Super Vee and achieved a podium finish. In 1985 Dobson made his debut in the Indy Car World Series for Leader Card Racing and participated in four of fifteen events. He started twice in races and was 38th in the drivers' championship. In 1986, Dobson started nine of seventeen indy car races for Leader Card Racing. He only crossed the finish line in Miami and came in 13th there. It was his first Indy Car finish. In the overall classification, he finished the year in 31st place. In 1987 Dobson failed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 for Dobson Motorsports . In 1988 Dobson took part in four Indy Car races. Three times for Dobson Motorsports and once for Dale Coyne Racing . He started it for the first time at the Indianapolis 500. He never reached the goal and was 43rd in the drivers' championship. In 1989 and 1990 Dobson was starting 19th in the overall classification for Bayside Disposal Racing . During this time he took part in a total of 19 Indy Car races. With a seventh place, he also reached the finish in the top 10 for the first time in 1989. In 1989 he also competed in the Le Mans 24-hour race . Together with Jean Alesi and Will Hoy , he started for Team Schuppan in a Porsche Porsche 962C .
From 1991 to 1993 Dobson drove the Indianapolis 500 for Burns Racing . While he did not complete any other missions in the first two years, he was given a cockpit at PacWest Racing at the end of the 1993 season . He took part in three of the last four races. He failed once to qualify. 1994 was Dobson's only season in which he competed in every Indy Car race. For PacWest Racing, he achieved his only Indy Car podium finish with a third place in the race at Michigan International Speedway . He finished the season in 18th place overall. With 30 to 14 points he prevailed against his teammate Scott Sharp . It was his last season racing Indy Car. In 1995 he was registered for PacWest Racing for the Indianapolis 500, but did not take part in any training. In addition, he started from 1985 to 1993 in individual races in other racing series, such as the IMSA GTP series and the IMSA Camel Lights . In 1988 he won a race in the IMSA Camel Lights.
In 1995 Dobson started a race in the IMSA World Sports Car Championship . In 1996 and 1997 he was active in the North American Touring Car Championship (NATCC) for PacWest. In 1996 he was runner-up behind Randy Pobst with four wins ; In 1997 he reached fourth place in the final with a win. In 1998 Dobson took part in 10 of 27 races in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series . In the overall ranking he was 35.
