Walter Frey

Walter Frey (born July 30, 1943 in Zurich ; legal resident in Biberstein and Zurich) is a Swiss entrepreneur and politician ( SVP ).

Professional background

Frey was a member of the National Council between 1987 and 2001 , elected in the Canton of Zurich . From 1999 he was President of the parliamentary group of the Swiss People's Party in the Federal Assembly . He was also President of the City of Zurich SVP from 1987 to 2001. In March 2008, Frey returned to politics after a break and became one of five vice presidents of SVP Switzerland. He resigned from this office on March 24, 2018.

Frey is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Emil Frey AG , which was founded by his father and is one of the largest car importers in Switzerland. He is also president of the ice hockey club ZSC Lions (previously the ice hockey team of the Grasshopper Club ), which he also supports financially.

He is married and has three children. In 2017, the Swiss business magazine Bilanz estimated his fortune at 1.75 billion Swiss francs. He lives in Küsnacht . He was a captain in the Swiss Army .

Motorsport

In the 1970s he was active as a racing driver and competed in the sports car world championship . His best place was eighth in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring in 1973 .
