Terra Triassica Museum

The Terra Triassica Museum in Euerdorf , Lower Franconia , is a museum with a geological focus on the Germanic Triassic of the Central European Basin .

history

The Terra Triassica museum was set up in the hunting lodge of the prince abbots of Fulda (built in 1598), which later became the old forester's house (1885–1973). The opening of the museum took place in 2013. The foundation of the museum is the Triassic fossil collection of the four collectors Jürgen Sell , Horst K. Mahler , Michael Henz and Bernd Neubig from the Mainfränkische Trias Euerdorf Collection ( SMTE ) , which has been compiled over 40 years .

Permanent exhibition

In the museum's permanent exhibition , fossils are on display, which document the change in the Triassic environment 252.5 to 201.5 million years ago in the area of today's Main Franconia and the Rhön . The changes in the environmental conditions in this area, the animals and plants living here, their extinction or emergence and their life in their ecosystems are explained.

The tour of the exhibition was laid out according to the classic triad division ( red sandstone , shell limestone and keuper ):

Nature trails

Connected to the museum are two geological nature trails ("Path through Time" and "Panorama Wine and Stone Trail") as well as five geological experience points (outcrops in the red sandstone and shell limestone ).
