Guy Verrier

Guy Verrier (born July 28, 1928 - October 31, 2019 ) was a French rally driver and circuit driver as well as head of motorsport for Citroën .
Career
Guy Verrier contested his first car races in national rallies in France. In 1960 and 1961 he took part in the Tour de France for automobiles with a privately registered Citroën ID19 , but was not rated on both occasions. At the end of 1961, Verrier became a works driver at Citroën and drove national and international rallies for the French brand.
Parallel to his rally activities, the Frenchman also had a career as a circuit racing driver. In 1962 he was on a CD Dyna for the first time at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . His partner was the future Matra designer Bernard Boyer . The race ended prematurely after an engine failure. In 1963 Verrier became a works driver at Renault Alpine , where he was responsible as a test driver for the development of the M63 , M64 and A210 racing prototypes . In 1964, he was released from Alpine to compete in Le Mans with the first prototype developed by Charles Deutsch after his separation from René Bonnet . In the CD 3 , however, the race ended after 124 laps driven by a gearbox failure.
After the end of the works contract with Alpine, at the end of the 1966 season, Verrier only competed in a few circuit races and turned increasingly to rallying again. The involvement of Citroën with the SM was noteworthy . In the early 1970s, both a rally and a circuit version of this vehicle were created. In 1972 Le Mans failed to qualify, but the heavy car achieved a few placings in rallies. Verrier was involved in this project as a driver.
After the end of his active career, he became head of motorsport at Citroën in 1980, and in this role launched the Total Trophée Visa International competition , in which the rally versions of the Citroën Visa also competed .
