history
The name Lövenich goes back to a Celtic estate with a Latin name: Luviniacum . Lövenich was first mentioned under this name in 1028. Since the Middle Ages, the agricultural village of Lövenich has been under the control of the Order of St. John and the Archbishop of Cologne . Lövenich was part of the Koenigsdorf office. In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the place. As part of the administrative reorganization by Napoléon Bonaparte around 1800, the places Lövenich, Weiden , Junkersdorf , Üsdorf, Großkönigsdorf and Kleinkönigsdorf became the "Mairie de Levenich". This was part of the canton of Weiden in the Arrondissement de Cologne in the Département de la Roer . Since 1815 Lövenich belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia and in 1816 came to the district of Cologne, in which it formed the mayor's office of Lövenich . From the mayor Lövenich 1928 was official Lövenich . In 1934 the community of Brauweiler was incorporated into the Lövenich office. This office was renamed Amt Weiden in 1937 . The Weiden office was abolished in 1951, making Brauweiler and Lövenich municipalities free from office. After about 175 years as an independent local community, Lövenich has belonged to the Cologne district of Lindenthal since the territorial reform of January 1, 1975 , with the two districts of Klein- and Großkönigsdorf to the west of the city of Frechen and thus today's Rhein-Erft district (formerly Erftkreis ) were slammed.
