The district of Widdersdorf is located in the west of the city of Cologne , in the district of Lindenthal .

location

Widdersdorf borders the Bocklemünd / Mengenich district in the east and north, the Müngersdorf and Lövenich districts in the south, Pulheim-Brauweiler in the west and the Vogelsang district in the east . Widdersdorf is already on the middle terrace of the Rhine Valley and is a place without structural points of contact with other parts of Cologne.

history

Widdersdorf was already settled in Roman times and since the eighth century. In 1109 the place was first mentioned as Wedersdorp . The name can probably be traced back to the animal designation ram . Since the Middle Ages Widdersdorf belonged to the office of Königsdorf in the Electorate of Cologne . Since 1494, the Brauweiler monastery had the right to appoint the pastor, who at the same time exercised jurisdiction over Widdersdorf. In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the place and came to the newly created Mairie de Freimersdorf in the canton of Weiden in the Arrondissement de Cologne in the Département de la Roer as part of the administrative reform . In 1815 Widdersdorf came to the Kingdom of Prussia and became part of the mayor's office in Freimersdorf. The administrative seat of the new mayor's office was initially in Widdersdorf, but was moved to Brauweiler in 1855. In 1928 the Freimersdorf office was renamed to Brauweiler. From 1934 to 1951, Widdersdorf was part of the Lövenich office and the Weiden office. Since then, Widdersdorf has been part of the Brauweiler community in the Cologne district . Widdersdorf has been part of the city of Cologne since January 1st, 1975.

In 1902 the Sester Kölsch brewery was founded in Widdersdorf , but it later moved to Cologne-Ehrenfeld. The brewery was then used as a grain distillery. This was converted for residential purposes between 1998 and 2000. The historic monument distillery with its ensemble of brick buildings was built in 1904. The four-storey boiler house and the clinker chimney tower above the buildings grouped around a paved courtyard. In close cooperation with the city conservator, a concept was developed that harmoniously connects the existing and added modern building fabric.
