Julien Henri Carette (born December 23, 1897 in Paris , † July 20, 1966 in Le Vésinet ) was a French actor .

Live and act

Carette initially worked as a salesman, among other things. He then attended the Paris Conservatory , but failed the final exam. After the First World War, he appeared in occasional engagements at various Parisian cabarets and music halls . His film career only began with the introduction of talkies. In the 1930s he starred in numerous shallow entertainment films . He also appeared in travesty roles such as Georges / Georgette in the French version of Reinhold Schünzel's Viktor and Viktoria (1933) and as a seductive Dutch woman in Richard Pottier's Fanfare d'amour (1935). Jean Renoir used the short Carette in the classics The Great Illusion (1937), Bestie Mensch (1938) and The Rules of the Game (1939) according to his appearance .

For three decades Carette was a busy and popular supporting actor in French cinema . He took one of his few leading roles in 1943 in Adieu Léonard . After the Second World War, several roles were tailor-made for Carette, including that of the devious murderer in The Red Hostel in 1951, directed by his friend Claude Autant-Lara . In the 1950s he was seen in many Franco-Italian co-productions.

Carette suffered from severe osteoarthritis and could not save herself in time when a fallen match set fire to his house in Le Vésinet while lighting a cigarette. He died as a result of his burns.
