Claudia Solal

Claudia Solal (born March 30, 1971 in Boulogne-Billancourt ) is a French jazz singer and composer .

Live and act

Solal, daughter of the pianist Martial Solal , first received piano lessons from her father before she decided to sing. She attended various conservatories and took lessons from Christiane Legrand and François Théberge .

She founded her first quartet with Baptiste Trotignon . With Médéric Collignon and Lê Duy Xuân she formed the experimental improvisation trio La théorie du chaos . Since 2002 she is also part of Newdecaband of her father and the orchestra Danzas of Jean-Marie Machado . In 2006 she also formed the Spoonbox quartet , with whom she first appeared at Jazz in Marciac . She also went with Yves Rousseau's program Poète, vos papiers! , which presented chansons by Léo Ferré , on tour. She can also be heard on albums by Jean-Marc Padovani , François Théberge / Lee Konitz , Eric Surménian and Françoise Toullec. She also worked with Carol Robinson, Mimi Lorenzini , Han Buhrs , Pascale Labbé, Phil Minton , Sainkho Namtchylak , Maggie Nicols and Tania Pividori.

Solal taught singing at the Jazz Department of the Strasbourg Conservatory and since 2006 at the Paris Regional Conservatory.
