Jean-Marc Padovani
Jean-Marc Padovani (born February 2, 1956 in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon ) is a French jazz saxophonist and composer.
Live and act
After studying classical music, Padovani studied jazz at the Marseille Conservatory with Guy Longnon . In 1975 he played with the orchestra of the jazz club in Nîmes , with the pianist Christian Lavigne and took part in theater music projects. In 1981 he was in Europamerica with Jef Gilson and in the Franco-German jazz ensemble, directed by Albert Mangelsdorff and Jean-Louis Chautemps . In 1982 he founded his own group with Claude Barthélémy and recorded his first record Demain Matin . He was involved in Barthelemy's La Chute after Albert Camus and in La Coquaphone by Louis Sclavis and Lavigne. In 1984 he performed with his quintet at the festival in Nimes. In 1986 he played with Mal Waldron at the Avignon Festival . In 1987 he recorded the album Comedy with tuba player Michel Godard . In 1989 he founded a new quartet with Bobby Rangell , with whom he recorded One for Pablo (CELP). He composed Le Rodeur (recorded in 1990) and toured with his quartet from 1989 to 1991 worldwide to Africa and India. In 1990 he played in the sextet Passions Jazz with Enrico Rava . His album Sud was released in 1992 and Nocturne in 1994 on Label Bleu (with vibraphonist Franck Tortiller ). In 1997 Takiya was released! Tokaya! with Paul Motian , Jean-François Jenny-Clark and Jean-Marie Machado (Label Hopi). In the 1990s he composed the music for numerous theater projects, including a. for the Faust by Christopher Marlowe or the “Les Caprices de Marianne” by Alfred de Musset , often in collaboration with Enzo Cormann. He composed the jazz poem Mingus-Cuernacava (Label Bleu 1992), Chants de Federico Garcia Lorca 1997, Jazz Angkor 1998 (recording on the Hopi label, with Ramón López ) and performed with the Minotaur Jazz Orchestra (album of the same name on the Hopi label in 2000 ). In 1999 Chants du Monde appeared (accompanied by tours with his quartet of the same name, with whom he also recorded De nulle part in 2002 ), in 2003 Out - Tribute de Eric Dolphy for a sextet a. a. with tortiller and Sébastien Texier . The projects Tombeau de Jack Kerouac followed in 2004 and Cantilenes in 2005 (recording with Chants du Monde).
In addition to theater music, he also writes film music and dance theater music. His influences include Padovani John Coltrane , Gato Barbieri , Mediterranean culture and mythology and the formations of Willem Breuker and Carla Bley .
He lives in Assier (Lot).
