Éric Séva (* 1964 in Paris ) is a French jazz musician ( baritone and soprano saxophone , composition ).

Live and act

Séva grew up in a family of musicians and began to play the classical saxophone at the age of eleven under the guidance of his father. From 1980 he attended the music academy in Paris for six years, where he graduated in 1986 with a diploma as a concert saxophonist for chamber music. In 1989 he worked with David Liebman in New York and turned to jazz with the help of Jean Cabu .

With his trio Yes Yes Yes , founded in 1990 , Séva won the Heineken Jazz Prize, which in 1993 led to a recording contract with Polygram . After appearances with Liebman, he belonged to Didier Lockwood's band between 1994 and 1998 , with whom he made several albums and in 1999 he also took part in the premiere of his jazz opera Journal d'un usager de l'espace-II based on Georges Perec . In 2004 he toured with Chris Rea (whom he also accompanied on the albums The Blue Jukebox and Blue Guitars ).

Between 2006 and 2008, Séva was a member of the Orchester National de Jazz under the direction of Franck Tortiller , with which the albums Close to Heaven and Électrique were created. With his quartet he presented the album Folkore Imaginaire in 2005 , which was enthusiastically received by critics in France. In 2009 he released the album Espaces Croisés with a different line-up , which he also presented in Germany. In 2015 his album Nomade Sonore was released , followed by Body and Blues in 2017 with a larger line-up . He also worked in a duo with Serge Merlaud . He can also be heard on albums by Senem Diyici, Celine Dion , Sylvin Marc, Diego Imbert , Maxime Le Forestier , Jean-Michel Jarre , Jean-Pierre Mas , Khalil Chahine and Zaz . He also toured with Zaz.
