Stéphane Huchard (* 1964 ) is a French jazz - drummer , bandleader and composer .

Huchard began as an autodidact on drums at the age of seven and studied in Paris from the age of 15 at the Dante Agostini drumming school , which he graduated with a first prize after five years. Initially turned to rock music , he discovered jazz for himself at the age of 15. In the early 1980s he played with jazz musicians such as Louis Winsberg and Jean-Pierre Como . In the 1980s he played in Laurent Cugny's big band “Lumière” (with whom he also made a tour and recordings with Gil Evans ) and for two years in the Orchester National de Jazz , also under Cugny. He accompanied the singers Élisabeth Caumont and Tania Maria and played a. a. with Sylvain Beuf , Sylvain Luc , François Jeanneau , Nguyên Lê , Andy Emler , Zool Fleischer , Emmanuel Bex , David Linx , Didier Lockwood , Stochelo Rosenberg , Jacky Terrasson , Diederik Wissels and the “ Paris Jazz Big Band ”. With Laurent de Wilde and Morgan Saint-Louis ("E-Jazz Part I") he made experiences with electronic bands, which was also reflected in his first recordings.

In 1999 his first album was released under his own name (and exclusively with his own compositions) on Blue Note Records "Tribal traquenard" a. a. with Pierre de Bethmann , Linley Marthe , Olivier Louvel, Stéphane Guillaume , Stefano Di Battista , Marc Berthoumiaux and Louis Winsberg, followed by a second album (with an acoustic quintet) "Tootakoosticks" 2001 (Live) with u. a. Bethmann, Guillaume and Nicolas Folmer . In 2005, Nocturne released his third album, “Bouchabouches” (inspired by the Paris Metro). African Tribute to Art Blakey was released in 2008 by the southern French label Harmonia Mundi . In 2011 he worked on André Manoukian's album Melanchology . In 2013 Panamerican was released by Harmonia sub-label Jazz Village.

In 2000 he received the Django d'Or (France) as New Talent .
