Diederik Wissels

Diederik Wissels (* 1960 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch jazz pianist who works in Belgium .

Wissels began to learn the piano at the age of five and studied flute, piano and guitar at the academy. He then went to the Berklee College of Music in Boston (including with John Lewis , Kenny Drew ), where he graduated in 1982. He then moved back to Brussels , where he has lived since 1968. In the same year he and the Jan de Haas Quartet won first prize at the jazz competition in Hoeilaart. Since then he has worked with jazz musicians such as Toots Thielemans , Sahib Shihab , Chet Baker , Larry Schneider , Marc Ducret , Kenny Wheeler , Slide Hampton , Philip Catherine , Joe Henderson , Junior Cook , Steve Houben and Freddie Deronde . He has also accompanied the singer David Linx for twenty years . He also appears with his "Silent Song Sextet".

In 2006 he received the Django d'Or (Belgium) .
