Larry Schneider

Lawrence "Larry" Schneider (born July 26, 1949 on Long Island / New York ) is an American saxophonist and modern jazz flutist .

Live and act

Schneider studied biology at Brandeis University in Massachusetts and also played in various rhythm & blues and jazz groups. At the age of twenty-one he went to New York City to devote himself entirely to music. He worked there in the mid-1970s with Billy Cobham , the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra , the pianists Horace Silver and Bill Evans ( Affinity , 1978), Richard Sussman and in the quartet of Jim McNeely .

In Europe, Schneider took part in the jazz festivals of Berlin and Paris , Montreux and Antibes and played recordings a. a. with The George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band , Shivananda , Andy LaVerne , Richie Beirach , Jim McNeely , Dave Stryker , Mike Richmond , Steve LaSpina , Billy Hart , Keith Copeland , Adam Nussbaum and Anton Fig . In 1987 he recorded the album Milanka ( Timeless Records ) in Brussels with a quartet led together with Diederik Wissels (with Hein van de Geyn and Mimi Verderame ) . From the end of the 1980s, a number of albums followed under his own name for SteepleChase Records and Label Bleu .

With Daniel Humair , François Méchali and the Ars Nova chamber orchestra , he recorded the album Détachement d'orchestre in 1992 ; later he worked with the pianist Giacomo Aula . In the field of jazz he was involved in 69 recording sessions between 1974 and 2012.
